Indictment hearing against Fakhrul Dec 8
A Dhaka court yesterday re-fixed December 8 for hearing on charge framing against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 25 other leaders and activists of the BNP-led alliance in a case filed for hartal violence.
The case was filed with Paltan Police Station for vandalising and torching vehicles, and assaulting police in the capital's Chamelibagh during the shutdown enforced by the then opposition alliance on March 2 last year.
The order came after lawyers for all the BNP leaders including Fakhrul, Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas and Abdullah Al Noman sought time for the hearing.
During yesterday's
hearing, lawyers for Fakhrul and others said their clients could not appear before it due to hartal enforced by Jamaat.
However, only Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal General Secretary Habibur Rashid Habib was present. On the other hand, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal President Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal was not produced before the court as he was earlier arrested in a case filed for creating subversive activities in the city.
CASE AGAINST MOUDUD
The same court yesterday adjourned till December 8 the hearing of a case filed against Moudud and 40 other activists of the alliance for torching a vehicle and throwing crude bombs at policemen during an anti-government movement on March 6 last year before Scout Market in Paltan.
The court passed the order after the prosecution filed a petition saying that they could not produce any witness before it to start trial.
Earlier on September 2, the court framed charges against Moudud and the 40.
