Hearing on Khaleda's appeal ends
The Supreme Court yesterday concluded hearing an appeal filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia regarding the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
The appeal was filed in 2012 against a High Court verdict that rejected a petition of Khaleda challenging a lower court order that accepted charges against her in 2009.
Yesterday, the Appellate Division also started hearing two other appeals filed by the BNP chief regarding Zia Orphanage and Charitable corruption cases filed by the ACC in 2008 and 2011. The court will resume the hearing today. Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others embezzled Tk 2.1 crore by forming the orphanage trust that exists only on paper, according to one of the charge sheets.
