5th Global Youth Film Festival Bangladesh kicks off today
The fifth Global Youth Film Festival begins from today at Natore.
Arranged by Cinema Bangladesh, the festival will be inaugurated by eminent thespian and cultural personality Ramendu Majumdar. Natore Film Club is the local organiser of the event.
Noted filmmakers Abu Sayeed and Gias Uddin Selim, along with producer and director Arifur Rahman, will attend the programme as special guests.
With the slogan 'Let's Cinema', the festival has aimed to promote emerging filmmakers since its inception.
After Laxmipur, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Bandarban, this year, the event will take place at Natore city's district council auditorium.
From 101 countries, 1480 films have been submitted by independent young filmmakers. Out of which 71 films have been selected by the jury board for screening at the festival.
The judging panel includes filmmakers Syed Salahuddin Zaki, Proshoon Rahmaan, Josim Ahmed, Bijon Imtiaz, member of International Federation of Film Critics and Editor of Show Time, Dhaka Tribune Sadia Khalid, and Spanish director Cristina Trenus.
Apart from previewing films, there will be a workshop on scriptwriting, art direction, production design, and film distribution.
According to the festival producer and filmmaker Hemanta Sadeeq, this year's arrangement has been dedicated to late eminent author Hasan Azizul Huq. Three films based on his works-- "Khacha" by Akram Khan, "Ei Puraton Akhorguli" by Proshoon Rahmaan, and "Golpoloker Chitrokor" by Ahasan Kabir Liton, will be screened.
N Rashid Chowdhury's film "Chandraboti Kotha" will have a special screening at the festival.
Out of 200 submitted films in the festival's signature category, 'Hiralal Sen Best Bangladeshi Film' 17 selected films by emerging Bangladeshi makers will be previewed. The three-day festival will conclude on December 28, with the announcement of seven winners. According to the organisers all the films will be free to watch during the festival.
