Shaan criticised for wearing 'Muslim' skullcap

Recently, beloved Indian playback singer Shaan was trolled on social media, after he wished his fans on the occasion of Eid, with a photo of him wearing a skull cap. However, the singer wanted to clarify his thinking behind the photo, which is why he shared a video on Instagram reacting to the criticism and jokes from netizens.
In the video, he shared that initially he had considered ignoring the trolls who were criticising him for his attire in the post. However, he felt compelled to reply after seeing that the number of negative comments were continuing to grow.
Speaking to his fans on Instagram, Shaan said, "I have been seeing the comments on it, that why, despite being a Hindu, I posted a video where I am dressed as a Muslim. I have gone to the Golden Temple as well and shared photos where you are required to cover your head. But there, I did not see such reactions. Even on occasions like Ram Navami, we post pictures wearing ethnic Indian clothes for the feel of it. I fail to comprehend how respecting a faith or culture can possibly hurt your religion."
He continued by adding, "This is not a justification, but because I wanted to talk about this a bit more. If you want to give the occasion or moment its due respect in a certain way, why is there such an issue over it? That post or that wish is not going to change the way I feel about my faith or you about yours. So why so much noise over it? We are a progressive nation. If we cannot even harbour this much respect and tolerance, then how will we progress? I want people to think about these things. I am a Hindu and Brahmin, but I am also a person and I am an Indian, so I know how to respect everyone's culture."
Immediately upon sharing the video, friends and fans showered the artiste with a whole lot of love. Singer Akriti Kakar commented, "Absolutely with you Captain! We haven't been taught this.. we love mankind and all love is our only religion."
Bengali singer Rupam Islam reacted by replying, "Great thoughts. Love you always Shaan and respect for your message to keep the true spirit of India alive."
One fan also commented, "Shaan I'm a bigger fan today. Exactly the thoughts of progressive true Indians. God bless."
