Legendary singer Vani Jairam no more
On Saturday, Indian National Award-winning playback singer Vani Jairam passed away in her Chennai residence. The singer had previously been bestowed with the Padma Bhushan—the third highest civilian award in India—in January of this year.
According to reports, Vani's domestic help rang the bell five times at her house without the singer opening the doors. As a result, the door had to be broken down. Inside, Vani was allegedly discovered with an injury on her forehead. The singer lived alone in her Chennai apartment.
Vani Jairam produced timeless chart-toppers, in partnership with some of the biggest composers from a variety of sectors. Numerous songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tulu, and Oriya have been recorded by the great singer. She has performed in numerous venues, both domestically and abroad. Over her stellar career, she received a total of three National Film Awards for 'Best Female Playback Singer'. Additionally, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, and Odisha have all awarded her state prizes for her contributions to music.
A professional vocalist for 50 years, Vani Jairam has over 10,000 songs on record.
