Two fraudsters, who lured people by promising good jobs, arrested in Chattogram
Two fraudsters were arrested by the Counter-Terrorism unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) early today from Khagrachhari district.
Following a case filed with Kotwali police station by a victim, the counter terrorism members conducted the drive in Dighinala of Khagrachhari and arrested the two.
The arrestees are Md Hanif alias Dipjal, 50, and Md Samsul Alam, 42.
They deceived people using the name of different renowned group of companies' top officials and defense force persons, according to police.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (CT) Asif Mohiuddin of CMP told The Daily Star, "One of the arrestees a few days ago phoned a Deputy General Manager (DGM) of a famous cement factory in the port city and introduced himself as a retired brigadier general, also S Alam group's director.
"Later, the fraudster offered the DGM to join S Alam Group as general manager and asked him to go to Dhaka for an interview. They even changed their voice and presented one of them as chairman of S Alam group over the mobile phone. After few days, they again called the victim and asked to give money for the plane ticket via bKash and the victim sent the cash via bKash," added the ADC.
"Total Tk 80,700 were withdrawn through Bkash from the victim," said the official.
But at one stage the victim was suspicious and realised that he was cheated by fraudsters, added ADC Asif.
He further said, "Arrestee Hanif used to introduce himself as the different group of companies' chairman, director or former army person, senior secretary of different ministry before their targets and took money from people by offering good jobs with handsome salaries."
CT Inspector Sonjoy Sinha said, "Hanif was earlier arrested by police in Dhaka in a similar incident as he introduced himself as the Bengal group chairman."
Police are trying to arrest the other members of the gang.
