Workers threaten countrywide transport strike
Transport workers in Khulna division have threatened to enforce countrywide strikes if the driver and helper arrested in connection with a robbery are not released by the next three days.
The workers came up with the warning today, on the fourth day of their indefinite bus strike on 10 routes in Khulna division, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Bus Owners and Sramik Oikya Parishad enforced the strike on Tuesday, demanding release of the driver of Sohag Paribahan and two staff of the bus, who were arrested by Madhukhali police in Faridpur earlier on the day.
At midnight on Monday, a gang of 7/8 robbers, in guise of passengers, looted cash, ornaments, mobile phone sets and others valuables from a Benapole-bound bus of Sohag Paribahan in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur.
“The strike to be intensified across the country if the detained workers are not released by the next two or three days,” said Azizul Alam, joint convener of the parishad.
