Traders to observe strike for 3 hrs from today
A gang of extortionists attacked a shop named Talukder Cloth Store in Bazar road area in Barguna district town and looted Tk 5 lakh from there yesterday. The gang also attacked the residence of Md Shahjada Talukder, owner of the shop.
Hearing the news, local traders brought out a procession organised by Barguna Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) in the town, protesting the attack. They also held a meeting in front of the Chamber office.
Md Jahangir Kabir, president of BCCI and also administrator of Barguna district council, announced that all traders will keep shutters down for three hours from 10:00am today, demanding arrest of the attackers.
Md Shahin Talukder, younger brother of Shahjada Talukder, said a gang of 10/12 people led by Ovi, Prince and Sohel attacked our shop and also our residence because we refused to give them toll.
Contacted, Md Reaz Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barguna Police Station, said police have started drive to arrest the gang.
"We visited the spots but nobody filed any case or complaint with the police station in this regard till 3:00am," he added.
