TIB for actions against Hajj anomalies
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) today urged the government to take actions against Hajj agents and brokers who cheated pilgrims and caused irregularities.
In a press statement, the international graft watchdog also requested the government to conduct an independent and neutral probe to put an end to these anomalies.
“Hajj pilgrims have come to us with various types of allegations,” said Dr Iftekharuzzaman, TIB’s executive director. “If these agencies are not brought to book, public plight will not cease.”
Alleging that the sufferings of the Hajj pilgrims are on the rise, Iftekharuzzaman said TIB thinks it is essential to ensure an independent and impartial probe to resolve these problems.
The TIB Bangladesh chapter chief also believes that the country’s image is being tarnished following the media coverage of the Bangladeshi pilgrims’s sufferings in Saudi Arabia and Hajj agencies’ irregularities and cheating.
Religious Affairs Ministry Acting Secretary Abdul Jalil, after being contacted, said they are taking actions against the alleged Hajj agents and persons who are found guilty for irregularities and cheating.
