Sonatola upazila chairman suspended

Sonatola Upazila Parishad Chairman Ahsanul Haque Toiyab Zakir was suspended on Monday as he is as accused in the cases for arson, vandalism and sabotage.

Sonatola Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Habibur Rahman received the letter issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives around 9:00pm.

Zakir, also the president of the upazila unit of BNP, is an accused in three cases filed with Sonatola Police Station for arson, vandalism and carrying out subversive activities in the upazila, following a clash on February 10.

Contacted, UNO Habibur said the ministry also asked woman vice-chairman Anjona Begum to take over the charges with immediate effect.

The chairman has been absconding since filing of the cases, UNO office sources said.
