Schoolgirl rescued two months after abduction
Police rescued a schoolgirl of the district from Kaliakoir area in Gazipur district on Tuesday, over two months after her abduction.
They also arrested one Mahiful Islam, 23, of Jagatber village under Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat in connection with the incident.
A resident of the area, the abductee, who was also raped, was sent to Sadar Hospital for medical test yesterday.
Police said the eighth grader was abducted on her way to school on February 8.
The abductors then took her to Kaliakoir area in Gazipur and confined her to a room of a house where she was violated by Mahiful.
“Mahiful often tortured me if I refused to have sex with him,” said the victim.
On February 10, the girl's father filed a case with Patgram Police Station, accusing Mahiful, his associate Abdur Rahim, 25, sister Tasli Begum, 29, and her husband Nabiul Islam, 35, in connection with the abduction.
The accused went into hiding soon after filing of the case, said Yakub Ali, sub-inspector of the PS.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house in Kaliakoir area on Monday night and rescued the girl.
They also arrested Mahiful from the spot, said the SI, investigation officer of the case.
Police are raiding different areas to arrest the other accused, said the IO.
