Robber killed in mob beating, 2 others held
A robber was beaten to death and two others were arrested with arms in Dinajpur and Bogra districts yesterday.
In Dinajpur, people of Khanpukur village in Birampur upazila beat a robber dead early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Nazmul, 50, son of Jahir Uddin of Bochaganj upazila of the district, reports UNB.
Quoting villagers, police said a gang of 4/6 robbers entered the house of Alim Uddin at the village at around 2:30am.
As the family members cried for help, neighbours rushed in and surrounded the house. They caught Nazmul, one of the gang members, and beat him up mercilessly.
Other members of the gang managed to flee the scene, exploded crude bombs. On information, police went to the spot, rescued Nazmul in a critical condition and took him to Birampur Upazila Health Complex.
He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 8:30am, said Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Birampur Police Station.
Our Bogra correspondent reported that police arrested two members of an inter-district robber gang along with a foreign-made pistol from Komorpur area in Adamdighi upazila early yesterday.
The arrestees are Zillur Rahman, 40, of Belail village in the upazila, and Golam Mustafa, 39, of Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat district.
Police said law enforcers, acting on a tip-off, raided the village and arrested the duo while members of the gang were taking preparation to commit a robbery in the area.
