River vessel workers on indefinite strike
River vessel workers throughout the country went on an indefinite strike early today to press home their four-point demand.
The waterway workers under the banner of Water Transport Workers’ Movement Committee declared the strike at midnight, said Shah Alam, president of Bangladesh Water Transport Workers’ Federation.
Their demand includes fixing minimum salary of the river transport workers at Tk10,000, giving them compensation for any harm in any accident, cracking down robbery on the river routes and increasing navigability of the rivers, Shah Alam added.
