Pvt chopper makes emergency landing in Kishoreganj

A private helicopter carrying six passengers made an emergency landing in Bajitpur upazila of Kishoreganj this noon.

The incident took place around 1:00pm when its cockpit windshield broke after being hit by a bird, suspectedly a common myna, locally known as ‘shalik’.

Fearing an accident, Captain Rashed, the pilot of the seven-seat helicopter of Meghna Group, was forced to make a landing in Goyeshpur Boardbazar area under Pirijpur union, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting police.

The helicopter was bound for Sylhet from Dhaka carrying six passengers including five foreigners, Abu Sama Md Iqbal Hayat, officer-in-charge of Bajitpur Police Station, said.

“No casualty was reported,” the OC added.

The foreigners include two nationals from Denmark, two from Korea and one from Italy, police said.

The passengers were scheduled to attend a programme of Bengal Foundation in Sylhet, said Baskar Debnath Bappy, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Bajitpur.

Soon after the incident, the upazila administration and police first informed local security guards (chowkidars) to rush to the spot.

A police team also went to the spot immediately and secured the passengers and the helicopter, the UNO said, who had also been to the spot.

Later, two four-seat helicopters of the Meghna Group from Dhaka flew in and carried the passengers to Sylhet, said the UNO.

After an inspection, the chief instructor of Meghna Group said the copter was fit to fly and later it flew for Dhaka around 2:30pm, the UNO informed.
