Principal embezzles Tk 20 lakh

The principal of Moukaran BLP Degree College in Sadar upazila allegedly misappropriated Tk 20 lakh in 30 months after joining the college.

Following a complaint submitted by 47 of the 48 teachers of the college, the Patuakhali deputy commissioner (DC), also chairman of the college governing body, on January 25, has ordered investigation in this regard.

According to the letter, HM Golam Mostafa joined the college as the principal on August 1 in 2015, and since then he allegedly misappropriated around Tk 20 lakh till January 2018, while the total income of the college was about Tk 36 lakh.

Vice-Principal Md Jasim Uddin Howlader said, according to the rules, all income should be deposited in account No 184 in Moukaran branch of Sonali Bank, but the principal did not deposit the incomes in the bank and misappropriated the money.

Mostafa misappropriated money by submitting false vouchers, Jasim alleged.

Principal Mostafa rejected the allegations as false and said some teachers are making propaganda against him.

“Some teachers wanted to be principal but in vain, and after I joined they engaged in false propaganda to harass me,” he said.

Nurul Hafij, additional deputy commissioner for ICT and education, said they have started investigation into the matter and he has visited the college.

“If we find the principal guilty, action will be taken against him as per rule,” he added.
