One dies in Madaripur clash

One person was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash yesterday over establishing supremacy at Sray Bish Roshi Najimuddin Kandi village in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur.

The deceased was identified as Ayub Ali, 50, son of Sohor Ali Matobber of the village.

Local said there was a longstanding dispute between Ilias Matobber, member ward No 2 of Madhober Char Union Parishad, and Altaf Matobber of the same area over establishing supremacy.

Supporters of Altaf locked in an altercation with Ayub Ali, a supporter of Ilias, when he went to the market at Nasirar More area. Later, supporters of Altaf beat up Ayub and the two groups clashed with sticks and other weapons, leaving Ayub dead on the spot and injuring 10 others, including a woman.

Shibchar Upazila Health Complex doctor Mosadak Shahin said, “Ayub was brought by locals at around 11:00am, but he was already dead. He was hit on the back of the neck.” He added that seven other people were also admitted to the hospital.

Office-in-Charge of Shibchar Police Station Jakir Hossan Mollah said, “Informed by locals, police rushed to the place and brought the situation under control. The injured were admitted to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex and Faridpur Medical College Hospital. We also arrested seven people, including Altaf Matobber.”
