Orphanage chief held over sodomy charge

Police arrested the superintendent of an orphanage in Birganj upazila on Tuesday in connection with a case for sodomising two boys of the institution on Sunday.

The arrestee, Ismail Hossain, 37, superintendent of Hablurhaat Darul Etim Dustha Shishu Protipalan Punarbhasan Kendra, is son of late Ahmad Ali of Arajimilonpur village in the upazila.

A Dinajpur court sent the arrestee to jail after police produced him before it yesterday, Inspector (Investigation) of Birganj Police Station Biswanath Dasgupta said.

Quoting the case statement, police said Ismail called two boys of the institution at his office room on Sunday afternoon and sodomised them one after another.

Police detained him on Tuesday night after guardian of one of the victims filed a case with Birganj Police Station accusing Ismail the same night, he said.
