Lawmakers want measures for realising defaulted loan
Lawmakers from treasury and opposition benches in the parliament today demanded strong measures for realising the defaulted loan to control the flow of black money and siphoning it off abroad.
The demand came while the lawmakers were taking part in the general discussion session in the House on the proposed national budget for 2019-20 fiscal.
They also urged the government to hold Bangladesh Bank officials accountable for the heist in the central bank and widening of the tax net.
The MPs on the opening day of the general discussion session also urged the government to recognise the unpaid work of women to the economy and take a step to include it in the national GDP.
Workers Party of Bangladesh Lutfun Nesa Khan said it is high time to recognize the women’s unpaid work to the national economy and the GDP.
She also demanded direct election to the reserved seats of the parliament.
“Increase stipend for girl students to bring down their dropout rate,” she said adding that the allocation for research in the higher education was not sufficient.
She alleged the government-run drug rehabilitation centres were in bad shape on the other hand privately-run of such centre were costlier.
She proposed for tax rebate for the privately-run rehabilitation centre.
Ruling Awami League MP Professor Ali Ashraf said Bangladesh Bank heist has taken place but no official has yet been made accountable for this. The matter will have to be addressed, he added.
Another ruling party MP Md Shifuzzaman demanded increase of the budgetary allocation in modernizing security system for public safety.
AL MP Habibe Millat urged the education ministry to consult with local lawmakers before finalising the list of educational institutions for inclusion to the monthly pay order system.
Paying attention to the agriculture sector which is suffering from several problems he demanded incentives for the sector along with health and education sectors.
BNP lawmaker Mosharof Hosen demanded enough talking time in the parliament.
“Whenever we get the floor for talking, they stat hue and cry in the house,” he said.
All ruling MPs hailed the budget and censured the critics of budget.
AL MP Pankaj Nath said that people who do not like Awami League and Sheikh Hasina are criticizing the budget.
Ruling MP Aroma Dutta said that father of the nation of the country did not face any kind of criticism across the globe. “Please refrain from criticism,” she urged.
