IGP directs all police units to beef up security, surveillance

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary today directed all units of police to step up security measures and intelligence surveillance to prevent any untoward incident ahead of the upcoming May Day, Ramadan and holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

The IGP came up with the directive in a meeting through video conference with the chiefs of all the police units and police high officials at the Police Headquarters form 7:00pm to 9:00pm this evening, said Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of police at Police HQ.

The meeting was convened to analyse the country’s security situation in the wake of terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka that left over 300 people dead and around 500 others injured, according to the Police HQ sources.

The IGP directed the law enforcers to take necessary steps for strengthening security of people and at all significant establishments in the country, and make sure that no incident of violence or terrorism takes place, AIG Sohel said.

Also, the law enforcers were directed to work alongside people in the same way they have done previously to fight militancy and terrorism in the country previously, he said.

Ongoing efforts to curb narcotics trade, improving traffic managements and ensuring road safety will also continue, the police official also said.

The IGP also instructed the law enforcers to take stern actions in case of any violence against women and children, the AIG added.
