Hit by bridge girder, 2 train roof riders killed

Two people were reportedly killed after being hit by an overhead girder of Hardinge bridge while travelling on a train roof at Pakshi in Pabna early today.

Deceased Abdul Hakim, 16, and Robiul Islam, 20, were residents of Shibganj upazila of Bogura, our correspondent reports.

Some passengers including Hakim and Robiul were travelling on the roof of Khulna-bound Chitra Express in the wee hours today, said officer in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station Bahauddin Faruki.

Hakim, Robiul and other five passengers fell from the train roof when they were hit by a girder of the Hardinge bridge at Pakshi in Ishwardi upazila around 5:00am, the OC said.

The duo died on the spot while the other five sustained injuries, he said.

Police on information recovered the bodies and sent the injured to a local hospital.
