Father arrested for raping 12-year-old daughter in Bogura
A 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 12-year-old daughter in Bogura's Sherpur upazila yesterday.
The victim's mother, who is the second wife of the accused, filed a rape case against Abdul Khalek with Sherpur Police Station yesterday night.
Police arrested the accused, a day labourer who lives in a rented house in Sherpur's Kusumbi union with his third wife and the 12-year-old daughter, from the area yesterday.
Quoting the victim, Gaziur Rahman, additional superintendent of police Sherpur Circle, told The Daily Star, "On October 21, when the stepmother went to work at a local rice mill, Khalek raped his daughter and threatened her to not tell anyone."
"Since the incident, the victim was shocked and was not helping with any household work. So, her stepmother began torturing her. Unable to bear the torture any more, the victim shared what had happened with her stepmother on October 30. The woman refused to believe her and threatened to tortured her even more for bringing up such allegations," said the police official.
"Becoming more frightened, the victim shared it with her friends, who informed the police."
During primary interrogation, Khalek admitted to the crime, said Gaziur Rahman. "We sent the victim to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for a medical test and sent the accused to court for his statement before the magistrate today."
