Sonargaon UZ chairman can discharge duty: HC
The High Court today cleared the way for Sonargaon upazila chairman Azharul Islam Mannan to resume his duty.
The court stayed for six months a suspension order on Azharul.
The LGRD ministry suspended the pro-BNP chairman on July 5 this year for the third time after a Narayanganj court framed charges against him in a criminal case.
It also issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks why suspension of Azharul should not be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Azharul challenging the government order that suspended him from his office.
There is no legal bar for him to discharge duty as chairman of Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj following the order, petitioner’s lawyer Saqeb Mahmud told The Daily Star.
Earlier, Azharul was suspended twice as he has been made accused in two other criminal cases.
