Man arrested on rape charge

Police early yesterday arrested a man on charge of raping a mentally challenged girl at Mobuakhali village in Dhunat upazila of the district on March 13.

The arrestee is Nayeb Ali, 35, son of late Jalal Uddin of the village. 

The law enforcers arrested him from his house around 1:30am after victim's elder sister Fatema Khatun filed a rape case with Dhunat Police Station on Tuesday afternoon.

Police quoted victim's family members as saying that Nayeb violated the 25-year-old mentally challenged girl at her house in absence of her family members on March 13 and fled the scene.

Hearing her groaning, locals went to the spot, rescued her and took her to a local doctor for treatment. 

Police produced the arrestee before a court yesterday afternoon that sent him to the jail, said Ziaur Rahman, officer in-charge of the police station.
