Housewife murdered for dowry
A housewife was murdered allegedly by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Phulbari upazila of the district on Monday night.
The deceased is Mallika Rani Roy, 20, wife of Sudhangsu Roy of Rajarampur village in the upazila.
Victim's father Jagadish Chandra Roy of Dakkhinnagar village in Sadar upazila said Sudhangsu married his daughter two months ago. He and his family members had been putting pressure on Mallika for dowry since the marriage, he alleged.
Neighbour said the couple had an altercation over the issue on Monday night. At one stage, Sudhangsu strangled his wife.
Being informed, police went to the spot Tuesday morning, recovered the body and sent it to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said ABM Rezaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Phulbari Police Station.
Jagadish filed a case with the police station, the OC added.
Away in Mymensingh, a schoolgirl was found dead at Kholabari village in Bhaluka upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The deceased Aklima Aktar Monira, daughter of Aminul Islam of the village, was a Class VIII student at Narangi High School in the upazila.
Police said Monira had an affair with a youth named Liton Mia of the village. Recently, Liton's family came to know the matter and refused to accept Monira.
Monira went out of her house on Monday night and did not return since then. Locals spotted her body near a jungle the following morning and informed the police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. They also recovered an empty bottle of poison from the spot, said Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Police Station.
