Elderly man shot dead by muggers

An elderly man was shot dead by snatchers in West Dashara graveyard area of the town yesterday.

The dead was Najim Uddin, 65, of Char-Dighulia village in Sadar upazila.

Police and locals said Najim's two sons live abroad. He along with his wife Monwara Begum, 50, went to Islami Bank's Manikganj branch to withdraw money.

When they were returning home from the bank, a gang of four waylaid their easy-bike in the area and demanded money.

As Najim refused, one of the muggers opened fire, leaving him critically injured. Najim was shot in his left chest.

Critically injured Najim was rushed to 250-bed Manikganj Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 2:30 pm.

Police are raiding different areas to arrest the killers, said Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Habibullah Sarkar.
