EC formation: Search body shortlists 20 names
-20 picked from over 120 names

The Election Commission search committee today shortlisted 20 names for constituting the five-member new commission.
The names were shortlisted based on their honesty, qualification and capability, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told journalist after the search body’s meeting at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge this evening.

Earlier in the day, a total of 28 political parties out of 31 submitted around 120 to 125 names preferring them as the next election commissioners, he said. “Of them, the search body picked 20 names.”
He said the tenure of the search committee, formed by the president, will end on February 8. “The search committee will put forward proposed names of the chief election commissioner and other commissioners to the president by the timeframe.”
He, however, said the search body will not make the names public.
The committee held the meeting there for two hours till 6:00pm.
