HC stays BRU teachers’ recruitment
The High Court today stayed for four months the process of recruitment of teachers for seven departments of Begum Rokeya University.
The departments are- English, Economics, Political Science, Electronics and Telecommunication, Computer Science and Engineering and Disaster Management.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the university and government to explain in four weeks why they should not be directed to appoint teachers for the university as per recommendation made by its selection board.
The bench of Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir came up with the order and rule after hearing a writ petition filed by MonjurArif and Annas Ali, two candidates for the post of the teacher of the university.
The petition, submitted to the HC last week, stated that the university authorities issued a circular on February 12 last year for appointment of teachers for 15 departments.
The authorities held relevant tests of the candidates and the selection board of the university made recommendations for recruiting some qualified candidates, writ petitioners’ lawyer Advocate HasnatQuaiyum told The Daily Star.
He said the university authorities published another circular on April 6, this year for recruiting teachers to some departments including the seven departments (English, Economics, Political Science, Electronics and Telecommunication, Computer Science and Engineering and Disaster Management) without completing the process for appointment under the last year circular.
The initiating process for new recruitment of teachers without completing the previous ones, is illegal, Advocate Quaiyum added.Anchor
