Gazette on rules for lower court judges by next week: Law minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq today said that the government will finalise the rules determining the discipline and code of conduct for lower court judges by next week.
The rules will be finalised after a meeting with the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha to be held on Thursday, he said.
The law minister said this while talking to The Daily Star after holding a meeting with the CJ at his Supreme Court office in Dhaka this afternoon.
Anisul hoped that a gazette notification on the rules determining discipline and code of conduct for lower court judges will be issued by the end of the next week.
“After finalising the rules, it will be sent to the president and after getting president’s approval, the gazette notification will be issued,” he said.
Earlier July 2, the Supreme Court gave the government a two-week ultimatum for issuing the gazette.
Before this, the apex court had directed the government several times to publish a gazette notification on the rules.
The lower judiciary was officially separated in November 2007 but the disciplinary rules for lower court judges are yet to be finalised.
