Tarique, ETV's Salam indicted in sedition case
A Dhaka court today framed sedition charges against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and three others over broadcasting a “fabricated and provocative” speech of Tarique.
Former chairman of Ekushey TV, Abdus Salam, now on bail, pleaded innocence and demanded justice after Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the Sessions Judge's Court read out the charges.
The judge set January 15 for starting trial in the case.
On October 23, the court issued arrest warrants against Tarique Rahman and two former journalists of private channel Ekushey Television (ETV) after accepting the charge sheet in the case.
Two other accused Mahathir Farooki Khan and Kanak Sarwar went into hiding after securing bail.
Detectives on September 6 last year pressed charges against the four.
The case was filed with Tejgaon Police Station on January in 2015 against Tarique, Salam and several other unknown persons on charges of broadcasting a “false, fabricated, and provocative” speech given by Tarique on January 5 in the same year.
