Six fishermen suffered bullet injuries as robbers attacked three fishing trawlers in the Bay in Kuakata of Patuakhali during the wee hours today.
The bandits also picked up two fishermen -- Faruk, 30, and Limon, 32, -- before leaving the spot, reports our Patuakhali correspondent quoting Ansari Ali Mollah, president of Alipur Trawler Owners’ Association.
The bullet-hit victims are Mannan, 30, Amir Hossain, 30, Imon Ali, 25, Shah Alam, 26, Faisal, 28, and Kaiyum, 25.
A gang of robbers swooped on three fishing trawlers in Fare Boyra area, 40-50 kilometres southwest of Kuakata just after midnight, Ansari said.
As the fishermen tried to resist them, the bandits, opened fire, leaving six of them injured, Ansari claimed, adding that the attackers also picked up two fishermen while leaving the scene.
Sanjay Mandal, in-charge of Kuakata naval outpost, said, “I have visited the injured at a local hospital this morning. They were later shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment.”
