5 ‘listed’ traffickers held in Cox’s Bazar
Police detained five suspected human traffickers during crackdowns at different places in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday and Thursday.
Detainees Jamal Hossain, 29, Abdullah, 35, Alam, 28, Jahidul Mostafa, 18, and Muzaher Ahmed, 38, are listed traffickers, Ataur Rahman Khandakar, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, told our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
Police carried out a drive at Shahparir Dwip in the upazila and detained Jamal, Abdullah, and Alam, around 4:00pm for their connection with human trafficking, the OC added.
Earlier, police picked up Jahidul Mostafa and Muzaher Ahmed by launching a drive at their Moulvibazar village in the upazila last night on the same charges.
Police launched the drive around 8:30pm, he added.
All the detainees have been engaged in trafficking people to different countries including Malaysia and Thailand since long, the police official said.
Later, they were sent to jail by the Cox’s Bazar Judicial Magistrate’s Court today.
