30 birds and animals seized in Tongi
Forest officials today seized 30 wild birds and animals from Tongi, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials of Dhaka Forest Department seized six parakeets, six bank mynas (shalik), two hill mynas, eight snakes of different species, and two small Indian mongooses conducting the drive there around 11:30 am.
The birds and animals were being sold there illegally, according to a press release issued by the Forest Department this afternoon.
The animals were taken to the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation department office at Mohakhali in Dhaka and will be released at Bhawal National Park in Gazipur, the release read.
A case was filed in this connection under Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act 2012.
