20 lakh Bangladeshis to get overseas jobs in next 5yrs
At least 20 lakh Bangladeshis will get overseas employment in different labour receiving countries within the next five years, a BMET official said today.
Selim Reza, director general of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET), said this while addressing a programme marking the International Migrants Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka in the morning.
While addressing the discussion, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shariar Alam said irregular migration is still a problem as some Bangladeshis tried to go to Malaysia and European countries through Libya by sea routes.

Apart from Selim Reza and Md Shariar Alam, Chairperson of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun spoke at the programme.
Majid said high migration cost is a major challenge for Bangladesh to stop exploitations against migrant jobseekers.
During the programme, 12 non-resident Bangladeshis received awards of commercially important persons (CIPs) for their outstanding contribution to the country’s economy by remitting foreign currencies and trading Bangladeshi products abroad in 2015.
