2 girls saved from early marriage
Two girls were saved from child marriage in Jessore and Bogra districts on Friday.
A schoolgirl was saved from child marriage at Shakharipota village under Benapole Port Police Station in Jessore
Informed that marriage of eighth grader Suraya khatun, 13, daughter of Alauddin of the village, was arranged Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdus Salam rushed to the spot and foiled the marriage, reports our Benapole correspondent.
Matchmaker Shabuddin Biswas, 27, bridegroom Liton Biswas, 24, son of Shahjahan Ali of Dhanyokhola village, and bride's mother Shilpi Begum were arrested from the spot.
The three were produced before a mobile court, led by the UNO, which sentenced Shabuddin and Liton to seven days' imprisonment each and fined Shilpi Tk 1,000.
In Bogra, a mobile court sentenced a man to seven days' imprisonment and fined three others Tk 1000 each for arranging marriage of an underage girl in Nandigram upazila of the district the same day, reports our correspondent.
