149 BNP-Jamaat men among 224 arrested in 5 districts
At least 224 people, including 149 BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men, were held in Gaibandha, Chapainawabganj, Satkhira, Jhenidah and Jessore districts yesterday and the day before.
The law enforcers in separate drives arrested 63 people, including 15 leaders and activists of BNP and 28 of Jamaat-Shibir in different upazilas of Gaibandha on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
The BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men were arrested in several cases, including those for subversive activities, vandalism and attacking policemen.
Of the arrestees, 16 are from Sadar, 12 from Sundarganj, 15 from Palashbari, six from Gobindaganj and 30 from Sadullahpur upazilas, said police.
In Satkhira, several law enforcing agencies arrested 65 people, including 39 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat, in the district in the last two days.
Meanwhile, police arrested 30 people, including two activists of BNP-Jamaat in different areas of Chapainawabganj on Tuesday night.
They were arrested in several cases, said Officer-in-Charge of Special Branch of the district Akmal Hossain.
Away in Jhenidah, police in separate drives arrested six BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men in three upazilas of the district on Tuesday night, reports our correspondent.
Of them, three were held from Harinakundo upazila, two from Shailakupa upazila and one from Sadar upazila.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ajbahar Ali Sheikh confirmed the matter.
In Jessore, joint forces in separate drives arrested at least 59 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir in the district on Tuesday, reports our Benapole correspondent.
A team of the 'joint force', comprising members of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh, conducted separate drives in four upazilas of the district and arrested them on various charges, police control room sources said.
Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Jessore Police Station, said the BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men were arrested in cases filed for subversive activities, vandalism and attacking policemen.
