12 Chandpur Jubo Dal men sent to jail in arson case

A Chandpur court yesterday sent 12 Jubo Dal men, including the president of the district unit, to jail in a case for arson attack on a truck that left the driver and two others killed in the town in March this year.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Masrur Salekin passed the order, rejecting the bail prayers of Jubo Dal men, who surrendered before the court at noon.

According to the case statement, the Jubo Dal men set a truck afire in Chandra area under Chandpur Sadar upazila on March 18, leaving the driver of the vehicle and two others dead. 

Police filed a case with Sadar Police Station the same day, accusing the Jubo Dal men, including the district unit president Shahjalal Mission.

Our Gaibandha correspondent adds: Palashbari police arrested the general secretary of the upazila unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir from Gaibandha town yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a khankasharif at around 2:00pm and arrested Sultan Mahmud, 22.

Police said the Shibir leader was wanted in vandalism and arson cases filed with Palashbari Police Station

In Satkhira, Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Debnagar village under Sadar upazila yesterday morning.

The arrestee is Maulana Zafarullah, president of Debnagar ward unit of Jamaat.

Officer-in-Charge Emdad Sheikh of Sadar Police Station police arrested the Jamaat leader, raiding his house in the area at around 9:00am.
