10 hurt as rival AL men clash in Moulvibazar
At least 10 were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League in Kadipur Union Parishad area under Kulaura upazila of the district on Friday.
The injured were admitted to the upazila health complex and Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.
Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Shafi Ahmed Salman, joint secretary of the upazila unit of AL, and Rafiqul Islam Renu, secretary of the unit, over establishing supremacy in the area.
As a sequel to the conflict, the men of the two rival groups attacked each other with lethal weapons on Friday night, leaving 10 people from both sides injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Md. Shamusdhuha, officer-in-charge of Kulaura Police Station.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert any further trouble, he said.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of a worker from a brickfield in Sonai Bridge area under Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district the same day.
The deceased is Ratan Bepari, 24, son of Afzal Bepari of Pashchim Machhuakandi village in Gosaihat upazila of Shariatpur district.
OC of Madhabpur Police Station Molla Manir Hossain said workers of Sonai Brickfield spotted the body inside the brickfield around 8:30pm and informed the police.
The law enforcers rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Habiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
