Highest number of Covid-19 deaths, infections in a day recorded
Forty-six people died of coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.
This is the highest number of deaths due to Covid-19 recorded in a day in the country so far.
The death toll now stands at 1,095 and the death rate at 1.34 percent, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, said during a briefing.
Among the deceased today, 37 were male and nine females, she said, adding that 19 were from Dhaka, 11 from Chattogram, three from Sylhet, two from Rajshahi, three from Barishal, five from Rangpur, one from Khulna and the remaining two from Mymensingh division.
Of them, one was between 21-30 years old, six within 31-40, three within 41-50, 12 within 51-60, 15 between 61-70, seven between 71-80, one within 81-90 and another was above 100 years old, Dr Nasima also said.
A total of 3,471 have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This is also the highest number of infections recorded in a day.
The latest figures take the total number of infections in the country to 81,523.
A total of 15,990 samples were tested in 59 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.
Meanwhile, 502 Covid-19 patients have recovered since yesterday, taking the total number of recoveries to 17,249 and the recovery rate to 21.16 percent, the DGHS official added.
A total of 436 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added.
