14-day lockdown: Covid-19 infection rate declining in Chapainawabganj

The Covid-19 infection rate is gradually declining in Chapainawabganj district due to the 14-day strict lockdown in two phases from May 25 and strict restrictions from June 6 to June 16, said Dr Nahid Islam, medical officer of the Chapainawabganj Civil Surgeon's Office.

"We expect the rate of infection will decrease further in the next few days," our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports quoting the official.

"In the last 24 hours, 538 samples were collected out of which 57 tested Covid-19 positive. Within this time, two patients died of the virus at the 250-bed district hospital," said the district's Civil Surgeon Dr Zahid Nazrul Chowdhury.

"A total of 32 patients tested Covid-19 positive out of 284 samples collected yesterday. The positivity rate was 11.28 percent yesterday," said the civil surgeon.

On June 1, samples of 363 people were collected and from them 196 tested Covid-19 positive, the positivity rate at the time was 63.7 percent.

Before Eid, the infection rate was 14 percent. After Eid is was 19 percent. From May 13 to 20, the infection rate was 39 percent. On June 8, it was 29.21 percent, reports our correspondent

"A check-post is there at the entrance of the district. Police are on round-the-clock surveillance to prevent anyone from entering or leaving," said Chapainawabganj Superintendent of Police Abdur Rakib.
