Trade union members protest detention of fellows
Garments Trade Union Centre held a protest rally in front of Jatiya Press club yesterday demanding immediate release of its members who were arrested for allegedly assaulting BGMEA employees in January.
A Dhaka court on Sunday sent the seven to jail, however, granted bail to president Mantu Ghosh.
The protesters alleged that their leaders were sent to jail following the instigation of government and the BGMEA as they were leading a movement demanding Tk16, 000 as minimum wage for garments workers.
On January 31, Maj (retd) Rafiqul Islam filed an attempt to murder case against 12 people with Ramna Police Station.
According to the defence lawyer, the accused surrendered before the High Court seeking bail on February 4.
