Stopping extra transport fare demanded at Ctg
Bangladesh Passengers’ Welfare Association yesterday submitted memorandum to the prime minister through Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chittagong with various demands, including a stop to passengers’ harassment and realisation of extra transport fare in Chittagong.
Md Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of the association, submitted the memorandum to the Md Shamsul Arefin.
Other demands include reduction in traffic congestion in the city, and making traffic system of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) digital to stop corruption of traffic police.
Public transport drivers plying between city and adjacent upazilas realise fare three to five times more than what was fixed by the government especially in the evening, on Thursday and the days before any public holiday, the leaders said in the memorandum.
Few corrupt members of CMP traffic department are charging extra fines from commuters, it added.
About the allegation, Additional Commissioner (traffic) of CMP Debdas Bhattacharya said there is no scope for such irregularities as fine is realised through receipts.
