Road crashes kill three
Three people were killed and 16 others killed in road accidents in the country yesterday.
Our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports, a couple was killed and their seven-year-old daughter was injured when an oncoming Chapainawabganj-bound truck hit a shallow engine-run three-wheeler carrying them at Hatnabad in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi.
The dead were Abdul Karim, 45, and his wife Sharmin Khatun, 34, of Narayanpur. Injured Sadia Akhtar was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
Police seized the truck and held its driver.
Our Patuakhali correspondent adds, a bus passenger was killed and 15 others were injured when the Kuakata-bound bus of Samudra Saika, which was being driven by a helper, overturned on Dhaka-Kuakata road in Pakhimara Bazar area.
The deceased was Sarbhanu, 80, of Khajura village in Kalapara upazil,.
Seriously injured Md Zakir Hossain and Tania Akhter were referred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Police said the bus driver got off at Amtali station while his helper took the wheel.
During crossing Pakhimara Bazar area, the helper lost control over the bus.
The body was sent to Patuakhali general hospital morgue for autopsy.
