Road crashes kill 6

Six people, including a couple, were killed and six others injured in road accidents in three districts yesterday.

In Bogra, a couple was killed as a Dhaka-bound bus hit their motorcycle and three auto-rickshaws after the driver lost control over the vehicle on Bogra-Dhaka highway in Majhira area of Shajahanpur upazila.

The deceased were Shafiqul Islam, 35, of Shujabad area of the upazila and his wife Mukta Begum, 27. Shafiqul died on the spot while Mukta succumbed to her injuries at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra after half an hour.

Three passengers of the auto-rickshaws were also injured in the accidents, said police.

In Chittagong, three people were killed and three others were injured as a human hauler hit a roadside tree after the driver lost control over the vehicle on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway in Patiya area.

Two of the deceased were identified as Subrata Talukder, 50, and Abu Bakar, 50.

Abu Bakar was declared dead at BGC Trust Hospital while two others were declared dead at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said Assistant Sub-inspector of CMCH Pankaj Barua.

Meanwhile UNB reports, a cattle trader was killed as a truck plunged into a ditch beside Bogra-Nagarbari highway after its driver lost his control over the vehicle in Dathiya Digor area of Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj.

The deceased was Abdul Latif, of Kishoreganj.
