Rail track construction to start in two months
Railways Minister M Mazibul Hoque yesterday said work on the Bangladesh portion of the proposed Akhaura-Agartala railway route will begin within the next two months.
He came up with the information while talking to reporters at the Akhaura checkpost before leaving for Agartala to attend a Bangladesh-India Friendship programme of the Rotary Club of Agartala.
Mentioning that Bangladesh and India had 12 railway routes which were closed after the India-Pakistan partition, he said there is a plan to reopen those.
The second rail bridge over the Titas and Bhairab rivers have already been completed and those will be inaugurated within a few days, he said, adding that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is supposed to join the inauguration ceremony through a videoconference.
An 11-member delegation, including Mazibul, his wife and son, is joining the programme in Agartala.
Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh at Agartala Md Sakhawat Hossain, its Second Secretary Md Iqbal Hossain and Rotary Club members received them at the integrated checkpost at Agartala.
