One man set to become Ctg city councillor uncontested

An Awami League-backed councillor candidate in the April 28 Chittagong City Corporation election is going to win uncontested, as his only rival withdrew his candidature yesterday.
Mohammad Hossain Hiron remains to be the lone candidate in Ward 13 (Pahartali).
Three people applied to run for the ward's councillorship, but the candidacies of Jamaat-e-Islami-blessed Md Mahfuzul Alam, the incumbent councillor, and Jatiya Party-backed Gias Uddin, were cancelled during scrutiny by the Election Commission last week.
Though Gias later regained the legitimacy of his candidature by appealing to the Chittagong Divisional Commissioner, he backed out yesterday.
