Eminent Chemist and Environmental Scientist Prof Dr Syed Safiullah died at the capital's United Hospital on Friday, aged 81.

He left behind his wife, a son and a daughter.

He was the former professor of chemistry and founder chairperson of environmental sciences department at Jahangirnagar University (JU), said a press release.

His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held yesterday on the premises of JU VC's residence.

He was buried at Banani graveyard after a second Namaz-e-Janaza at Gulshan's Azad Mosque.
