Suspended govt official arrested for ‘attempted rape’ of woman

Police arrested suspended deputy secretary AKM Rezaul Karim Ratan from Hazaribagh area of Dhaka tonight in a case filed for allegedly attempting to rape a woman last week.

Ratan was arrested from Modhubazar area around 8:00pm, Ikram Ali Miah, officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh Police Station, told The Daily Star.

The 30-year-old woman filed the case against Ratan with the police station on October 7 as he attempted to rape her on his house on the same day, added the OC.

On the other hand, police tonight arrested three youths from Palashnagar area under Pallabi Police Station of the capital on charge of gang-raping a female worker of a bag manufacturing factory in the area.

The trio -- Imran, Khokon and Robin--was arrested tonight after the victim filed a case against 15 people including her colleague Amzad in this regard yesterday, Abdul Mabud, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Pallabi Police Station, told The Daily Star.     

Police also are trying to arrest the rest accused including Amzad, added the OC.
