‘Custodial Death’ of Rayhan: Second autopsy report handed over to PBI
Primary report of the second autopsy of Rayhan Ahmed, who was allegedly tortured to death in Sylhet city's Bandarbazar police outpost in October 11, was handed over to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) yesterday.
Dr Shamsul Islam, head of the forensics department at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, handed over the autopsy report.
While talking to journalists, he said, "Rayhan's second autopsy has resemblances with the first one. He was beaten badly with blunt weapons which eventually led to his death."
Earlier on October 15, the first autopsy report of was handed over to PBI. That day, the second autopsy was done after exhuming his body from grave.
The first autopsy report stated that there were 111 injury marks in on his body and two of his nails were pulled off.
The autopsy report also mentioned that Rayhan was tortured between two and four hours before death.
His stomach was empty and he had severe internal bleeding because of excessive physical torture.
The second autopsy report's details are not available yet.
Rayhan (33), a resident of the city's Neharipara area, died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital at 7:50am on October 11, around an hour after he was admitted there by police.
After allegations arose of torture on him inside the Bandarbazar police outpost, an internal probe body of police was formed, which initially found involvement of the outpost's police personnel. Four police personnel, including the outpost in-charge, were suspended and three others were withdrawn from the outpost.
PBI arrested a suspended constable in connection of the death and taken into five-day remand on Tuesday, a day after three constables testified in court.
Meanwhile, another sub-inspector of the outpost, Hasan Uddin, was suspended on Wednesday as a probe body formed by Police Headquarters to investigate who helped Akber to run away found his involvement with the incident.
