Scrapping DSA: left-leaning student bodies barred from laying siege to law ministry
Police today barred activists of left-leaning student bodies, who were going to lay siege to the law ministry to press home their demands of scrapping the Digital Security Act.
A procession of the activists, under the banner of Pragatishil Chhatra Jote, reached near the law ministry when police barred them by putting barricades on the road, said Sadat Mahmud, organisational secretary of Chhatra Union, Dhaka city unit.
Being resisted, they staged a sit-in there. Later, they ended their programme for today.
Some left-leaning student organisations including Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Chhatra Front and Chhatra Federation had announced to lay siege to the law ministry today -- also demanding withdrawal of the case against seven students picked up from Shahbagh and release of those arrested under the DSA, including leftist leader Ruhul Amin.
They also protested the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jai custody and torture of cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore after his arrest.
