NSU holds its 23rd convocation virtually
The 23rd Convocation Ceremony of North South University (NSU) was organised yesterday through a virtual session. It was broadcas live on NSU's Facebook page and DBC News.
At this year's convocation, 4,014 undergraduate and post-graduate students were certified, of whom two were awarded the Chancellor's Medal for exemplary performance while eight students were awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Gold Medal, said a press release.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni presided over the convocation ceremony and conferred the degrees. During her speech, she said, "Students need to be taught how to achieve lifelong learning. In this fast-changing world, knowledge that is so necessary today may lose its relevance in coming years."
She also said, "It may be important for a student to acquire knowledge in a new field even after completing their university education. Realising this need, the government is considering introducing a new education system that'll allow this type of learning to take place even after finishing university education."
Private Sector Industry and Investment Advisor to the PM Salman F Rahman said in his speech as convocation speaker, "It is really up to all of you graduates here today to carry the country to greater development," the press document quoted him as saying.
Among others, UGC chairperson Prof Kazi Shahidullah; chairperson of NSU's Board of Trustees (BoT) and former president of FBCCI MA Kashem were present as special guests; while university VC Prof Atiqul Islam; Azim Uddin Ahmed; Freedom Fighter Lion Benajir Ahmed; Yasmin Kamal; Rehana Rahman; Tanveer Harun; and Aziz AI Kaiser were present as guests of honor. Prof Tanvir Ahmed Khan, executive advisor to the VC was present as convocation marshal. The programme was moderated by Jamil Ahmed, TV presenter and director of NSU's Public Relations Office.
Abu Mohammad Shabbir Khan from School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (SEPS) spoke on behalf of the graduates. Among others, Pro-VC Prof M Ismail Hossain, Deans of the various schools of NSU, directors of various departments, department Heads, senior officials, and teachers were present at the programme, the press release added.
The virtual convocation was also attended by a large number of parents and students through live broadcasts of the event.
